Panasonic started in 1918 in Japan under the name Matsushita. Matsushita started by producing double lamp sockets. Matsushita was founded and was owned by its owner Konosuke Matsushita. To assume a bond with the Japanese, Matsushita called itself National and took the name Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co, Ltd.
