Panasonic started in 1918 in Japan under the name Matsushita. Matsushita started by producing double lamp sockets. Matsushita was founded and was owned by its owner Konosuke Matsushita. To assume a bond with the Japanese, Matsushita called itself National and took the name Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co, Ltd. Even though the company had several products throughout Japan, they had many products throughout Asia and had factories their also. Light fixtures, electric motors, and many other products were produced in these factories. In 1955 Matsushita started to produce audio speakers under the name of “Pana Sonic”. In 2007, Forbes Magazine ranked them has the 59th company, and they renamed to “Panasonic” in 2008. Even though most people think of Panasonic as primarily an electronics manufacturer based in Japan, it is actually a multinational corporation and the designer and maker of the well known Panasonic LCD Televisions. LCD is abbreviated for Liquid Crystal Display.

The Toshiba company that exists today was created by the merging of two separate companies in the 1930s. The name that it is known by today started off as a nickname for the Tokyo Shibaura Denki, or Tokyo Shibaura Electric. To- and Shiba- were taken off the first parts of these names and officially combined in 1970 to form the name Toshiba. Toshiba LCD TV sets have been top of the line for many years and consist of many different models.
